The Great WarIt was in mud and holes they fought
With mire and rats beneath their feet.
In trenches, it was liberty they bought.
It was death they did familiarly greet.
As the fire filled the skies,
And the pain was in their cries,
Such doubt did fill their eyes
Viewing nothing but the blood on the snow.
Among the bodies and thick gasses,
Among rusted wire and splintered trees,
They struggled against the masses
With the rumbling earth beneath their knees.
And as their brothers fell
On the ground of that unearthly hell,
These young boys saw full well
What no man should ever know
Christmas TreeEternally honored and forever-green tree,
Delightful is your gold and crimson filigree.
Your full, warm lights pierce this darkness
And remove the winter's starkness.
The secrets of the season are kept between your boughs,
As the sent of your blessings do permeate the house.
With unity and your true spirit of joy,
Our contentment, frigid storms cannot destroy.
And your reminiscence of this blessed time
We will forever keep in our heart and mind.
For you recall the histories of old,
Which tell of our Redeemer, so meek and bold.
